Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Derek Trucks bought his first guitar at a garage sale for $5 at the age of nine and became a child prodigy, playing his first paid performance at age 11. By his 13th birthday, he had played alongside Buddy Guy. At the age of 15 he formed the Derek Trucks Band, and by his 20th birthday he had played with such artists as Bob Dylan, Joe Walsh, and Stephen Stills. Also at age 20, he became an official member of The Allman Brothers Band, where his uncle the late Butch Trucks was the drummer. In 2010, he formed The Tedeschi Trucks Band with his wife Susan Tedeschi. Trucks has appeared twice in Rolling Stone's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
